Shopping spree raises nearly $775 for local food bank
By: Marketing
Marketing @ 10:58 am
Congratulations to one of our newest Michigan First members, Diane Cotton, the grand prize winner of our five-minute, all-you-can-grab Meijer grocery-shopping spree at our new Fraser Meijer branch! Michigan First organized the contest to celebrate the grand opening of our newest branch.
Diane not only took home two full carts of groceries, but also helped raise nearly $775 for Bethany Baptist Church’s local food pantry as part of Michigan First’s pledge to match the dollar amount of groceries obtained and make the donation.
Diane, a W
arren resident, was selected from 20 finalists to receive the grand prize shopping spree. Entries were based on registering on the new 24/7 online banking kiosks at the Fraser branch during the grand opening celebration that began Sept. 1. New members who opened checking accounts with at least $100 received even more entries.
If you haven’t stopped by our newest branch at the Meijer in Fraser, now is the time! The virtually paperless branch features computer kiosks and MoneyWorks™ Banking Centers available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help you manage nearly all of your banking needs. Financial service representatives are also available within the branch to assist members between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Look forward to seeing you there.

Want some cash for your clunker?
By: Marketing
Marketing @ 4:11 pm
On June 24th, President Obama signed the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act of 2009 (or the CARS Act), containing an initiative known as “Cash for Clunkers,” that provides government vouchers for up to $4,500 to individuals trading in old vehicles for a new vehicle purchase.
How the Program Works
The idea behind these programs is simple, offering a monetary incentive for consumers to trade in their current vehicle and purchase a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle.“Clunkers” that average 18 miles per gallon or less, and are still in drivable condition may be eligible to receive rebates up to $4,500 depending on the estimated gas mileage of the new vehicle. Purchasing a new car that is 4 MPG more efficient than the previous vehicle nets a $3,500 voucher, and cars with a 10 MPG or more improvement are eligible for a $4,500 voucher. The cutoffs for trucks are slightly more relaxed, and are set at increases of 2 MPG and 5+ MPG, respectively.
What You Need to Know
1. Find out if you are eligible to receive cash for your clunker by visiting www.FuelEconomy.gov.
2. Find out the value of your current vehicle. If your vehicle’s trade in value is more than $4,500, you would actually lose money by utilizing this incentive. Use online resources such as the Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com) to find out the value of your vehicle.
3. Speak with a Michigan First financial services representative to get pre-approved for your auto loan and visit one of the many Michigan First Preferred Dealers to get cash for your clunker! For more information, go to www.MichiganFirstCars.com.
