Wow! $1593 in groceries!!!
By: Marketing
Marketing @ 11:59 am
Congratulations to Edith Martin, the lucky winner of our shopping spree drawing in Lincoln Park!
Edith not only received a $25 gift card from Meijer, she also received a five-minute shopping spree in the grocery area of the Lincoln Park Meijer store during the wrap-up of our grand opening events on Monday, May 3. Edith made a mad dash for the butcher/frozen foods area of the store and successfully filled five carts with a variety of frozen meats, fish, and other foods. When all was said and done, she took home $1593.52 worth of groceries, courtesy of Michigan First. In addition, the credit union made a matching donation to the Lincoln Park Goodfellows, the local organization that the Lincoln Park Meijer store partners with. With this donation, the Goodfellows are able to help 160 local families enjoy a full holiday dinner.
Congratulations to Edith, congratulations to the Goodfellows, and congratulations to our new Lincoln Park branch. The shopping spree winner at Rochester Hills now has a significant mark to beat!

Beware of Haitian relief donation fraud
By: Marketing
Marketing @ 4:37 pm
Many of us want to help the Haitian earthquake victims by donating funds. We remind you to remain alert and only give to reputable organizations; past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted criminals to solicit contributions that they claim are for a charitable organization or a good cause.
Before making any donation, use these FBI-issued guidelines. A few reputable relief organizations for the Haitian effort are listed below.
- Do not respond to any unsolicited (spam) incoming e-mails, including clicking links contained within the messages.
- Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.
- Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by using Internet-based resources to assist in confirming the group’s existence and its nonprofit status rather than following a purported link to the site.
- Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show photos of the disaster areas in attached files because these files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from known senders.
- Make contributions directly to known organizations rather than relying on others to make the donation on your behalf to ensure contributions are received and used for intended purposes.
- Do not give personal or financial information to anyone soliciting contributions; providing that information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft.
Government-recognized relief efforts are being made via the American Red Cross, Yele Haiti and UNICEF.
